Jac is a great teacher. My daughter leaves every lesson full of enthusiasm and confidence. He's patient and puts the needs and interests of his students first. He sets practice targets that are motivational, ensuring that my daughter practices everyday without complaint. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Jac’s lesson are always filled with bite size gold nuggets with relevant information that enables rapid progress and understanding of key blues concepts. He can communicate in simple digestible language the practical applications of complex musical ideas that facilitate the development of playing skills. He’ has also a resource to complement the lessons with backing tracks and material to support the lessons. I also find that the mini videos at the end of the lesson are very helpful to enable practice and consolidate the concepts imparted in the lesson. My understanding of the blues and playing skills have improved considerably under Jac’s tuition.

My Teaching Philosophy

Playing guitar should be a pleasure, and that's why my lessons are all about finding that sweet spot of 'flow', the perfect balance between satisfaction and challenge. In the long run, this fosters a more sustainable relationship with your instrument, because you're relishing the process of learning, not chasing after an unrealistic ideal.

Technical progress is part of that journey, and that's why I use a teaching system that I've honed over countless hours of teaching, as well as offering RSL grades for those who may benefit from the extra discipline of formal exams. However, this must always be in service of the student's flourishing as a musician.

This philosophy is summarised in my mission statement:

To give students a lifelong relationship with the guitar.
